A brief history of the design and manufacturer:
In 1938 two Argentinian architects Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy teamed up with Catalan designer Antonio Bonnet and created the "Butterfly" chair - also then know as the BKF after their initials.
The inspiration for the design came from a chair used by the British military in the 19th century.
The chair was manufactured by Knoll until the 40s and was revived by Charles Bernard in 1951 when he established his company Airborne©. He named it after the magazine Architecture d'Aujourd'hui - hence the AA chair.
Airborne© went on to become a world famous furniture company and owns the rights to the original chair design
